Alert! MOUAU Refutes Hoodlum Invasion Rumour, Boosts Security Measures
The management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has dismissed as false and unfounded, a report circulating on social media, alleging that suspected hoodlums are planning to invade the institution’s campus.
In a statement issued on behalf of the university management, the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Anyaso Anyaso, described the report as unverified and deliberately crafted to create fear and panic among students, parents, staff and members of the public.
According to the statement, the university’s security unit, working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, conducted thorough investigation into the claim and found no credible evidence to substantiate the allegations.
“The claim is unfounded and designed to cause unnecessary fear among parents, students, staff and the wider university community,” the statement said.
The management reassured stakeholders that the safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors remain its highest priority, stressing that the institution’s security architecture remains fully operational.
It noted that the campus security team is on alert round the clock and continues to maintain close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property within the university community.
The statement further disclosed that additional patrols and precautionary measures have been implemented as part of routine risk-management strategies and to reassure members of the university community.
Students and staff were encouraged to continue their normal academic and administrative activities without fear, as there is no security threat to the campus.
The university also cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of generating panic and undermining public confidence, while emphasizing that unconfirmed reports can distract security personnel from their duties and unnecessarily heighten tensions within the community.
It urged stakeholders to rely solely on official communications from the university, including updates released through the Public Relations Unit, the institution’s website and verified social media platforms.
The management expressed appreciation to parents, students, staff and members of the public for their continued cooperation and support, reiterating its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and peaceful environment conducive to learning and research.
